My trip to Japan was to climb Mt Fuji this time, it's the first trip I didn't even look for any information but simply joined to go. My friend has planned the whole trip including booking the hotels, planning the climbing route and driving the whole way.
We stayed in a hotspring hotel for 3 nights, on 4 Aug we took 1 hr bus to arrive to the 5th station, which's 2305m high. We started climbing from here.
It's so sunny in the hillside but when we reached the 5th station it started to rain and became so cloudy. We waited like 1 hr to start our climb.
It's actually totally packed with trekkers that day. For the first 1000m, we're able to walk and climb more normally. However the higher we climbed, the croweded it became since the path has become more narrow and steep. We climbed the mountain in the snail speed, the higher we reached, the slower we were.
I tried to keep my breath steady the whole time because I was afraid that I might have altitude reaction.
We walked slowly but still needed a lot of energy food to support us: we brought extremely juicy peaches, the grapes. My friend has brought 2L of hot water and I believe I drank half of it. Guess that's the reason I used the toilet quite often (because you can hardly sweat in such a windy and cool environment). They charged 200-300Yen for each time of toilet usage. I believe I've contributed nearly 2000Yen in 2 days LOL.
We arrived the 8th station after 6 hours of slow climb. It's getting dark and the view's so nice.
We spent another hour climbing the last 100M to our moutain house because it's located in the peak of Mt Fuji. Walk's so slow and it seemed like we could never reach our resting place. You can imagine how great we felt after arriving. We had dinner and rested for few hours before we reached the summit for sunrise. By resting few hours, meaning you actually couldn't sleep since your bed's so small (it's just a size of a pillow and your body couldn't move at all). I ended up having a sleepless night due to a lot of noise and small space.
We got up at 2am and spent another 2 hrs to reach the summit. Many people're already waiting for the sunrise there. It's so windy and cold, I believe it's below 0 degree. We waited for half your ended up only seeing the orange shadow of the sun due to the heavy fog.
Failed to see a clear sunrise, we decided to walk around the crater to witness the greatness of Mt Fuji. The girls thought it's just 10 mins of walk but we ended up having almost 2 hours of long walk around the crater fighting the strong wind and rain. My face got so swollen with the cold and rain, but I really had to thank the innovation of Gore-tex product, which has protected me from getting cold LOL.
We celebrated my fd's bday in the peak of Mt Fuji, guess it must be a memorable year for him.
Seems I need to challenge more moutains later on LOL
